Een paar dagen geleden had Jan Tromp in Uitgesproken, naast Rob de Wijk, ook Marietje Schaake van D66 en Farid Tabarki ('conceptontwikkelaar' en mediawizard) aan tafel. Gezien het onderwerp en zijn medaille (de gekste dag), kun je elk moment een kalasjnikov verwachten in een hoek van de studio. In elk geval was Farid Tabarki voor een militaire aanval met grondtroepen. Marietje durfde het niet zo stellig te poneren, maar eigenlijk vond ze wel dat een grondoorlog gerechtvaardigd was. Het fascistoïde gedachtengoed zit grondig in onze maatschappij ingebakken. Want in feite is een grondoorlog en het bombarderen van de Libische troepen in strijd met het Handvest van de VN en ook in strijd met de no-fly resolutie. Dat een aantal politieke partijen achter de bombardementen staan is ronduit schandalig. Want waar komt het op neer: om het hypothetische moorden door Gaddafi te vermijden, moeten we moorden, en dat moeten we goed doen, door grondtroepen en het afzetten van Gaddafi. Zoals in Irak. Jammer genoeg hebben we in Nederland weinig mensen als Rob de Wijk die vraagtekens zet bij deze interventie. Farid Tabarki is een exponent van de jonge neoliberaal die het vooral om het eigenbelang te doen is, daarvoor wil hij zelfs oorlogsmisdaden rechtvaardigen. Het verschil in mentaliteit tussen mensen als Tabarki, Schaake en Gaddafi zelf is flinterdun geworden. Gaddafi heeft het voordeel van de twijfel aan zijn kant, want hij is tenslotte nog steeds de legitieme leider van zijn land.
The Meaningless Concept of Ethical War: "The record for intervention is one of greater death and destruction than the threats it is supposed to stop where it is used and of allowing monstrous crimes to go unchallenged where it is avoided. Indeed, it has been avoided always where monstrous crimes are involved; the very situations in which its human costs might be more than offset by what it prevents. Just consider Israel’s assault on Gaza a few years ago, a place which is essentially a large, fenced-in refugee camp possessing no serious weapons. Israel killed something like 1,400 people, including hundreds of children, estimated at 400 young souls, and its soldiers committed such barbarities as using children as human shields. One saw pictures on the Internet of blood running like sewer overflow in the streets of Gaza. Yes, hundreds of children killed and with no rebuke from Washington or Paris or London and certainly no threat of having a no-fly zone or other violent measures imposed.
Up to the point of intervention, information from Libya suggests nothing on quite that scale of barbarism had occurred; rather there was the beginning of a conventional civil war with one side having better resources."
Het Westen heeft nu partij gekozen in een burgeroorlog en is dus mede verantwoordelijk voor de doden die vallen. Gaddafi's leger is nog steeds een legitiem leger dat in eigen land opereert en per definite het recht heeft zich tegen een inval te weren. De Libische rebellen krijgen militaire steun van de NAVO. De opmars van de rebellen wordt voorafgegaan door de bombardementen. Het Westen verschaft de hoofdmacht en de rebellen volgen. Van verovering door de rebellen is geen sprake. Het Libische leger wordt overal gebombardeerd en verdreven. Dat is geen eerlijke strijd. Regime-change en het steunen van rebellen behoren niet tot het VN mandaat. De NAVO is niet bezig met het beschermen van burgers, integendeel men is bezig een regering omver te werpen en dat zonder oog voor de reële slachtoffers en gevolgen. We hebben gezien hoe eenzelfde scenario faliekant fout ging in Irak. En Irak kan elk moment weer uitbarsten in chaos. De Irak-oorlog was humanitair een gigantisch fiasco; bezien vanuit de oliebelangen was het een succes. Irak was humanitair gezien een foute oorlog.
FPIF: "The UN resolution is very clear that military force can only be used to protect Libyan civilians, but the Western powers have simultaneously made clear that their real political goal is regime change--ousting Muammar Gaddafi. Ironically, by stating Gaddafi has "lost his legitimacy," western leaders are dramatically narrowing the space for negotiations which could provide for a more peaceful removal of the Libyan leader. And what if these attacks lead to an escalating, rather than diminishing, civil war?"
Guardian: "Philippe Sands QC, professor of international law at University College London, warned that coalition forces were facing a "major problem" to justify their latest strikes on legal grounds and Lord Ashdown, the former high representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, said the coalition forces led by Britain, France and the US were facing "a moment of danger" over the legality of their actions. He said "continued support for this looks as though it is leading to support for regime change, which legally is beyond the [United Nations] security council resolution".
Professor Nicholas Grief, director of legal studies at the University of Kent, said it was possible there could be an attempt to bring the matter before the international court of justice."
Wat speelt er achter de schermen? De financiële belangen van de oorlogvoerende landen, met name Italië, Frankrijk, Engeland en de VS.

A “coincidental technical glitch” shut down the Italian markets on the 22nd of February for seven hours halting a more devastating crash. The Libyan’s hold a 40 billion dollar investment in one of Italy’s largest banks, Unicredit so it is not just oil, construction, and immigration where the countries’ economic interests have been intertwined. Now it is Italy’s hope that NATO will preserve their investments and thus work to uphold these criminal assets of the European economy, if not it could only spell trouble for all.
Hopefully it is becoming common knowledge that British Petroleum is set to construct the largest and deepest offshore oil rig in the Mediterranean, much like “deep horizon”, in Libyan waters off the coast of North Africa. Gadaffi will have a very hard surviving and would have without this military expansionism in the Mediterranean. This military expansion is only going to ensure profits for Berlusconi’s cronies, British Petroleum and other factions of Libyan capitalists that will plunder in place of Gadaffi.
The hypocrisy is glaring, almost blinding. Companies like Haliburton, British Petroleum, the Italian energy giant Eni, and a host of others will have plenty of jobs to dole out to middle and upper middle class Libyans that have benefited from slimy recent dealings between Gadaffi and Berlusconi, now they’ll have direct bidding to European and American corporate colonialists and maybe a little larger slice of the pie. British Petroleum drilling in the Mediterranean, wouldn’t it be better to see British Petroleum eliminated completely from the face of the earth?"
Fransen, Britten en Italianen struikelen over mekaar om hun eigen belangen veilig te stellen. Als daar maar geen Europese oorlog van komt.
NU: "De Libische rebellen beginnen vanaf volgende week de export van olie. Een woordvoerder van de rebellen meldde zondag een handelsovereenkomst met Qatar te hebben gesloten. Eerder op de dag werd bekend dat de Britten de controle over de oliehandel in Libië zullen overnemen. Met dit besluit creëren de Britten een diplomatiek conflict, aangezien veel Arabische landen vrezen dat het Westen alleen geïnteresseerd is in de olie van Libië. Qatar en Groot-Brittannië behoren tot de grootste medestanders van de rebellen."
Vorig jaar werden de voorbereidingen getroffen voor deze oorlog door diverse landen. De NAVO is momenteel een aanvalsorganisatie die in strijd handelt met het handvest van de VN. De NAVO is niet defensief, maar offensief, een oorlogsmachine die gedreven wordt door economische belangen.
Men ziet wel in dat het beter is de rebellen niet van wapens te voorzien. Het Westen wil alle macht in eigen hand houden. Dat maakt ons ook verantwoordelijk en schuldig aan een illegale oorlog. Niet de rebellen veroveren het land, maar de coalitie. Bovendien zijn de rebellen geen burgers, maar fundamentalistische groeperingen. Of het later nog mogelijk zal zijn deze groeperingen in bedwang te houden blijft een vraag. De CIA was al langere tijd betrokken bij het verzet tegen Gaddafi en lijken een greep naar de macht te willen doen. Als de CIA daarin invloed krijgt dan is het gedaan met de vrijheid en democratie. Dan komt er straks een nieuwe Gaddafi.

WSWS: "The Libyan National Council, the Benghazi-based group that speaks for the rebel forces fighting the Gaddafi regime, has appointed a long-time CIA collaborator to head its military operations. The selection of Khalifa Hifter, a former colonel in the Libyan army, was reported by McClatchy Newspapers Thursday and the new military chief was interviewed by a correspondent for ABC News on Sunday night."

Met andere woorden, de interventie is niet begonnen om burgers te beschermen. En Gaddafi heeft nog steeds veel aanhangers. Wat gebeurt er met deze burgers? Bombarderen? Van politieke rust zal weinig sprake zijn later. Dat Gaddafi zich vroeger kon laten gelden als redder van zijn land kwam door het feit dat vóór hem de rijken werden gesteund door de VS en de rest van het land in armoede leefde. Als de Libische olie weer verdeeld wordt onder een paar westerse landen, dan zal de armoede rap terugkeren.

De interne strijd om de macht is al begonnen in Egypte. De contra-revolutie is ingezet. Wat blijft er straks over van de Arabische lente als het Westen weer zijn macht heeft gevestigd in Noord-Afrika?

FDL: "Our Republican leaders haven’t violated the Constitution’s 5th and 8th amendments by torturing suspected criminals, prisoners of war, and random foreign nationals. We simply submitted “enemy combatants”–who may or may not have actually been picked up on the battlefield–to “enhanced interrogation methods,” formerly known as torture (sort of like rock star Prince). I suspect our founders feared the Constitution might be shredded by military coup, civil war, foreign invasion or dictatorship, but I doubt they ever suspected it would be ruined by semantics.
George Orwell was mostly right. Mostly. Our leaders don’t exactly claim “War is Peace,” but being told war is a “humanitarian kinetic military action” isn’t far off."
US aircraft carrier leaves Libya for Straits of Hormuz: "My guess: Iran may be about to intervene in Bahrain. The US has a major base there so of course Obama has made no foolish talk about supporting democracy and freedom there except for a few timid squeaks about how Bahrain shouldn’t murder peaceful protesters. Saudi Arabia of course already has troops there. The Shiite majority in Bahrain is getting whacked by the Sunni government, and this makes Iran cranky."
