US election madness

The illusion of choice

HuffingtonPost: "Watching the presidential election take shape in modern times is a painful process.

When will this absurd system fall apart? How long can we go on pretending it is real? Corporate interests will pour more and more money into destroying anyone threatening the system, and as we know, money talks. But while their money can destroy, they are having a harder and harder time creating. Their products are not real, and at some point, we will stop buying it altogether."

"American democracy is under assault

In one super-PAC alone, Karl Rove and the Enron grifter Ed Gillespie, have assembled $200 million from big polluters and Wall Street moguls to buy the 2012 election.

Two of the Koch Brothers, Charles and David, pledged $130 million to elect candidates who favor unrestrained corporate profiteering.

The senators and congressmen they fund and elect are not representing the United States—they are representing Koch and its oil industry cronies, Big Pharma, and the Wall Street banksters currently mounting a hostile takeover of our government.

I have no problem characterizing these corporate-centric super-PACs as treasonous.  We are now in a free fall toward old-fashioned oligarchy; noxious, thieving and tyrannical."

AngryBlackLadyChronicles: "By now the story has gotten around that Ryan’s people forced their way into the Food Bank that explicitly stated that Ryan was not welcome. They came after hours so they would not have to deal with actual poors and re-washed clean dishes for the press so as not to have to get their hands dirty."

Canada: "Voter fraud paranoia spikes before election

As the presidential candidates scrambled to sweep up the last crumbs falling from America’s thin plate of undecided voters, both sides also recruited thousands of lawyers to oversee the voting in swing states where concerns have grown that on Tuesday cheating could snatch victory from their grasp.

In this dramatically tight race, Democrat lawyers went into action in Florida Saturday night where they filed an emergency lawsuit to keep the advance polls open in the four southern counties, which are considered Democrat strongholds.

There were reports that Florida voters had waited up to six hours at advance polls after the Republican-run state issued a 10-page ballot and cut the advance voting period to eight days from 14. One poll was closed for hours because of a suspicious package.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican and Tea Party favourite, had refused calls to extend advance polling hours.

The Democrats have an army of about 2,000 lawyers to watch for shenanigans in Ohio alone, where the candidates are fighting a pitched battle that could decide the final outcome of this fractious race."

HoldYourNoseAndVoteObama: "President Obama takes our vote for him in 2012 for granted.

And he’s right…we’re stuck.

For the sake of the Supreme Court we have to vote.

But, the “change” he promised did not occur.

We don’t have to pretend that it did.

Send a message.

Sincerely,

The Left (professional and otherwise)"
